Approving Employment Contract for the Grant-Funded Position of Mayors Against Illegal Guns Regional Coordinator.

Summary:
Requesting City Council approval of a contract to fill the grant-funded position of Mayors Against Illegal Guns Regional Coordinator at the City of Orlando.

The City of Orlando has been selected to receive grant funding to hire a Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) coalition “Regional Coordinator.” This funding is provided by the United Against Illegal Guns Support Fund (UAIGSF) in recognition of the work done by the City of Orlando, the Orlando Police Department and Mayor Dyer to combat illegal, crime guns and gun violence in Orlando, the state, the region, and at the national level through the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition.

As part of the City of Orlando’s ongoing efforts to combat crime guns, the Regional Coordinator will play an integral role in the coordination and planning of gun crime prevention and illegal gun-related initiatives, events, and media opportunities in the city and in the region. Under the terms of this award, the MAIG Regional Coordinator is expected to focus solely on work related to illegal guns, crime reduction, violence prevention and public safety.

Recommended Action:
Approve and authorize the Mayor and City Council to execute the contract subject to final review by the Office of Legal Affairs.

Approved and authorized the Mayor/Mayor Pro Tem and City Clerk to sign the contract, subject to review and approval by the City Attorney's Office. The City of Orlando has been selected to receive grant funding to hire a Mayors Against Illegal Guns (MAIG) coalition “Regional Coordinator.” This funding is provided by the United Against Illegal Guns Support Fund (UAIGSF) in recognition of the work done by the City of Orlando, the Orlando Police Department and Mayor Dyer to combat illegal, crime guns and gun violence in Orlando, the state, the region, and at the national level through the Mayors Against Illegal Guns coalition.
